Politics along the Wapack Corridor

A Grassroots Campaign to save Social Security and Medicare . . .

Since their respective inceptions, Social Security and Medicare have been primarily championed by one political party – the Democratic Party.   Frustrated by the popularity and success of these programs (while many on Wall Street have coveted the funds diverted to support these programs)  the Republican Party has repeatedly sought to diminish the programs or to end Social Security and Medicare as we have known them.  We must remember that:

Social Security – The Old Age Survivors and Disability Insurance  (OASDI) – is an Insurance Program.  It is NOT an investment program.

Social Security is one of America’s most successful government programs.

Social Security has helped millions of Americans avoid poverty in old age, upon becoming disabled, or after the death of a family wage earner.

Social Security provides a BASIC LEVEL of benefits for WORKERS and their FAMILIES that can NOT be decimated by inflation and the unpredictable nature of the stock market.

Social Security benefits last a lifetime and are adjusted for inflation.

Medicare has made it possible for Senior Americans to live into their late years without fear of being financially crippled by the illnesses of old age.

With this in mind, we of the Wapack Corridor have taken it on ourselves to wage a roadside campaign to defeat any candidate who would privatize Social Security and turn Medicare into a voucher system.  To this end, we are building, by hand, a set of 100 signs to be spread along our local highways . . .  to urge our neighbors and countrymen to  . . .

Save Social Security and Medicare.  Vote Democrat !!

Great post!!! And presented simply for those who may not understand what is at stake when it comes to the conservative agenda and their reckless views about these programs.

“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group of course that believes you can do these things. Among them are a few other Texas oil millionaires and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.”

    ― Dwight D. Eisenhower
